A homeless charity for teens is calling on generous Vancouverites to donate gifts so that homeless youth can experience a real Christmas.
Covenant House Vancouver houses between 50 and 55 youth per night in their residential program, while 60 to 100 teens visit during the daily drop-in.
Michelle Clausius with Covenant House says donations of clothing and shoes are much needed ahead of the holiday season.
“Covenant House is primarily privately funded, so we earn about half our revenue for the entire year during the Christmas season, but also people in the month of December can donate new clothing. Also shoes and boots and think about Christmas presents, so things that a young person might like to receive for Christmas.”
Clausius says helping out young homeless people before they become a member of the adult homeless community could save their lives and prevent long-term costs to society.
