Despite the City of Vancouver moving to regulate short-term rentals like Airbnb and clamping down on illegal marijuana dispensaries, city staff confirm no additional bylaw enforcement officers will be hired next year.
The revelation was made during the 2017 budget consultations before city council Wednesday afternoon.
NPA councillor Melissa De Genova questions how successful enforcement will be.
“Are we expecting the 21 officers that we currently have, two of them specifically already dedicated to the marijuana dispensary issue, how are we going to be regulating and enforcing this properly if we’ve already spread our resources so thin?”
Staff say a full review of the enforcement unit will be conducted to determine if additional resources are required.
