Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for Metro Vancouver, Greater Victoria, Fraser Valley west – including Abbotsford, and east Vancouver Island, and it’s snowing in much of Metro Vancouver.
The forecast calls for up to five centimetres of snow, depending on the location.
The snow is bogging up transit, with accumulation on the tracks causing SkyTrain delays according to spokesperson Anne Drennan.
“The trains are all running with minor delays, so people might notice a delay of up to 5-10 minutes at times,” she says.
She adds there will be no larger buses heading up Burnaby Mountain Monday morning, including the 135, the 144 and the 145 that service Simon Fraser University.
The transit authority says the larger buses will not be going up there until “roads are accessible,” and will instead use its Community Shuttles to transport people to and from Burnaby Mountain.
SFU has also cancelled all classes a the Burnaby campus until further notice.
Snowfall has also led to at least one fairly major power outage, with a downed tree in Coquitlam knocking out power to 2,000 customers.
The City of Vancouver and the BC Care Providers Association are reminding all property owners and tenants that they must clear snow and ice from the full width of sidewalks that surround their property, by 10 a.m. following a snowfall.
