Just two months after the RCMP settled a multi-million dollar class action suit with female members alleging harassment and discrimination, the Canadian Forces now face a similar suit.
The suit is being led by former naval forces member Nicola Peffers – who claims she faced discrimination over a several years period starting in 2007.
“I learned that the culture was not one of camaraderie, at least not for women, or LGBTQ forces members. The culture was one of fear and intimidation, of abuse discrimination, bullying, and harassment.”
In the document, Peffers claims to have been subjected to unwanted and non-consensual contact, sexual assault, limited opportunities for advancement, etc.
Peffers lawyers are now putting out the call for other women and LGBTQ members to come forward and join the suit.
They estimate the suit will eventually be joined by hundreds, if not thousands of plaintiffs.
