City Councillor Adriane Carr has presented an emergency resolution to the Green Party of Canada calling for the government to reverse the decision on the Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion.
The resolution was submitted at a special general meeting of the Green Party of Canada.
Carr says a nationwide campaign is needed to educate Canadians about the effects of global warming.
“The motion basically calls on the Green Party of Canada to embark on a robust nationwide campaign to educate the public about accelerating climate change, and the impacts of decision that the Prime Minister and the cabinet just made around Kinder Morgan and the fact that kind of decision really does have a huge impact on our climate.”
The resolution is co-sponsored by over 600 members of the Green Party of Canada.
“The goal of the whole nationwide campaign is to mobilize the public to fight the decision that was made to let the Prime Minister and the cabinet know that the public think it’s the wrong decision and to have that Kinder Morgan decision overturned,” she says.
At its peak, the $6.8 billion project is expected to provide over 4,500 jobs.
