Metro Vancouver’s Transit Police Chief says new police officers will be on the the beat to cover the Evergreen Line in time for its opening.
TransLink had said as recently as last week that existing officers will be redeployed when the line opens, but Chief Doug LePard told reporters today new officers will be coming.
“Eight additional officers to start with. We will evaluate, see what the impact is, see what the increase in workload is, and we will decide whether we need to make the case for additional officers,” he said.
The Evergreen Line opens December 2nd.
The $1.43 billion, 11-km extension will provide a link between Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam.
