The province has announced more than 1,900 new campsites will be added to help meet growing demand.
More than 800 of the sites will be in provincial parks and over 1,000 will be in recreation sites.
“We are committing an additional $23-million to add more than 1,900 new campsites, we are hiring more park rangers to boost conservation and make our campsite areas more accessible for people of all abilities,” said Premier Christy Clark.
Park services for persons with disabilities will also be improved and a new “BC Parks Foundation” is launching so community groups and others can come together and have a voice.
“Nature is what defines us as British Columbians and we always talk about who we want to be in terms of jobs and opportunity but nature and this beautiful environment that we’re gifted with is really who we are and it’s the part of our world that we’re obligated to preserve,” the premier said.
B.C.’s provincial parks receive more than 21 million visits every year.
