The Vancouver Park Board has created the city’s first pop-up park, which will open to the public next week.
Community members rallied together this weekend to add final touches, planting more than 1,500 plants in the park.
Park Board Chair Sarah Kirby-Yung says although it’s a pop-up, the future is bright for the new park.
“The long-term plan is that entire block between 5th and 6th Street and Fir and Pine will become a full city park. This is sort of the first phase of that longer-term park.”

She says they will be looking at other opportunities for pop-up parks across the city.
“It’s always our goal at Park Board to enhance green spaces in the city, to protect the park space that we have and make sure that those are permanently protected spaces. But also, to ensure that there are new ones. It was great to see the community out. We had hundreds of people coming out to plant.”
The park is located on Fifth Avenue and Pine Street.
