Deborah Marshall, spokesperson for BC Ferries, says the outcome could have been tragic if it weren’t for the skills of trained staff on board.
“We’re very proud of them today. This fellow was suffering from hypothermia, apparently, he was in the water for 20, 25 minutes, where he was on top of his aluminium skiff for that period of time. So we’re very thankful that crew got to him on time.”
The ferry was en route from Denman Island to Hornby Island when it made the diversion to carry out the dramatic rescue.
