Minister responsible for TransLink, Peter Fassbender, says the British Columbia transit system needs to be modernized with apps such as Uber.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving called for ride-sharing apps to be available ahead of what will be another busy holiday season.
And Fassbender responded by saying the whole transport system needs an overhaul.
“I think issues like taxis having apps, like some of the ride-sourcing companies do, looking at other opportunities to provide more choice for people. All of those things contribute to giving people the choices and the options they want.”
Fassbender says the government is working closely with the taxi industry to make that happen.
“My message is that we need to modernize the entire system. Taxis included. They’re looking at it, with bringing in apps and other opportunities so we’re committed to working with the existing industry and looking at what consumers want.”
The Minister was at the New Westminster Skytrain station, marking the completion of the station upgrades.
