TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond is confident the opening of the Evergreen extension line will go off without a hitch.
The extension is due to open on December 2 at noon.
“You’ve got to make sure all your communication systems work, your electrical systems, all the mechanical systems at the stations. The contractor has some punch-list items, in the scheme of things, fairly minor. We think all systems are a go ’til December 2. We’re looking forward to it, we’re excited,” says Desmond.
He says only some minor finishing touches are needed.
“You’re in the final stage of just the final testing. Anytime you’re constructing a new rapid transit line, the tunnelling, getting all the systems in place, there are so many elements of a big, complicated infrastructure project. We’re just really excited it’s nearly ready to open.”
The $1.43 billion, 11-kilometre extension will provide a link between Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam.
The line includes six new stations and a new, third platform at Lougheed Town Centre.
