The Independent Investigations Office says it will not be referring an incident that happened in Dawson Creek last year to Crown Counsel for consideration of charges.
In July of 2015, a man, previously identified as James McIntyre, was fatally shot by officers outside a Site C open house.
He had been wearing a Guy Fawkes mask during the incident, synonymous with the hacktivist group “Anonymous.”
Anonymous later said in a video that McIntyre was one of theirs.
Officers were responding to a complaint at the public meeting when they encountered McInytre – said to be acting aggressively – and he was fatally shot.
In the report released today, the IIO says the officers’ responses to McIntyre’s actions were fair, as they were confronted with “threatening and potentially deadly assaultive acts.”
