A day after losing 7-2 to the New York Rangers, the Vancouver Canucks have announced they are re-assigning 20-year-old forward Jake Virtanen to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League.
The Canucks sent the struggling young winger to the Comets where he played in two games before being recalled last weekend.
Virtanen has had a very limited role with the club this season after appearing in 55 games last season with 13 points. He has only a single assist in ten contests this year.
He watched both games from the press box and general manager Jim Benning said he would be sent back to Utica this morning.
The Abbotsford native was drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2014 draft.
