The BC Liberals have named former news anchor Steve Darling as the 2017 candidate for Burnaby-Lougheed.
Premier Christy Clark made the announcement along with Darling at the Burnaby Lake Rugby Clubhouse to a full crowd.
After nearly two decades an a news anchor, Darling says he’s excited for the new challenge.
“I’m super excited to be here today. When something happens to you a month ago, like it happened to me, you sort of look at your life and you think about what it is that you want to do and what’s important to you, and my wife and kids are here and they’re important to me obviously, and their futures are important to me, and that’s the decision why I decided to take a leap and do something completely different.”
Darling says he will fight for good jobs, a strong economy, and world-class services for young families.
Clark says the new candidate has spent the past 18 years as a broadcaster, standing up for the little guy, and she expects him to continue that fight as the Burnaby-Lougheed 2017 candidate.
“Today’s he’s taking the next step. He’s dropping the gloves, he’s going to fight for the values that built this province.”
Darling says he’s fit for the challenge.
“I’m super excited to now actually get out on the street, talk to people, go to their homes, learn a lot more about the people that are in the riding.”
