The head of one of B.C.’s biggest movie studios says he’s still in shock over the U.S. election and not yet sure how – or if – it will affect the province.
Pete Mitchell, with Vancouver Film Studios, says the good news is a global market place gives BC studios a good buffer.
“Whatever is happening in the United States, their population is only 5% of the world population and probably 30% or less of the product that we make,” he said.
“If there’s some changes in the United States or some protectionism – I think we are a little bit insulated against it because of the global nature of what we are doing.”
Mitchell says the U.S. – Canadian dollar exchange rate is important, and so far that seems to be steady.
The film industry in B.C. is estimated to be worth about $2-billion to the provincial economy every year.
