The Burnaby school board is calling on the province to hold a by-election to replace the Vancouver trustees.
The B.C. School Trustee Association has also written a letter urging the Minister of Education to consider a by-election.
Former chair of the VSB, Mike Lombardi, says the demands should be acknowledged.
“Somebody is going to have to take it into account because we have an election coming up and official opposition has already said they will automatically reinstate the board, or call a by-election, so I think there is going to be an increasing pressure on all of the political parties to do that.”
Lombardi also says he’s happy to have support from other boards.
“We’ve now had at least five school boards calling for a by-election. I think the feeling is amongst all boards and trustees and all democratically elected organisations in the province, that you need to have a democratically elected organization in place.”
Vancouver school trustees were fired Oct. 17 for not passing a balanced budget, and were replaced by official trustee Dianne Turner.
