Should Maggie still be alive today?
That is the question being asked in the wake of new information about her death Saturday on the SkyTrain line between the Nanaimo and 29th Street stations.
Maggie is the dog that bolted from the Trout Lake dog park Saturday afternoon because of firecrackers.
A transit employee, speaking to Global News on condition of anonymity, outlines the disturbing series of events.
The staff member says after SkyTrain employees spent 15 – 20 minutes trying to coax Maggie off the tracks, the control operator told them they “don’t have all night.”
The employee says what was heard next on the radio was shocking.
“So the dog was walking on the limb, he said, he’s on the limb, that train is headed straight for him, EB that train, meaning emergency break that train. There was a few seconds of a pause and the control operator said train EB’d and then the SkyTrain attendant said well it’s a little late, the dog is no longer a problem.”
The Fluevog family, Maggie’s owners, wants some answers and the BC SPCA is now investigating.
