As of Monday, it’s going to be a whole lot easier to adopt a child in B.C.
Until now, adopting a child in B.C. involved a “cumbersome” paper-driven process of bureaucratic red tape.
“And that for many parents who desperately waiting to build their families, 18 months is just too long a wait to meet their future child,” said Minister for Children and Family Development Stephanie Cadieux.
She says the system is moving online through a website called “Adopt BC Kids.”
“We’ve heard from prospective parents that the paper-driven office space adoptions process was confusing. They didn’t know where they were in the process, what documents had been received, what was still needed.”
She says the new system will be “less bureaucratic, and a lot faster.”
Cadieux says B.C. exceeded its adoption targets with 644 children and youth finding forever homes over the past two years.
