Four prisoners overdosed in a Vancouver prison on Thursday night on what is believed to be fentanyl.
It’s of little surprise, but the powerful drug, may have made its way into prisons after four inmates at North Fraser Pretrial Centre overdosed on what is believed to be the dangerous opioid.
They ingested a substance on Thursday night and were taken to hospital to be examined.
Narcan was then administered to the inmates, and all four were then released back into custody after observation.
A statement released by BC Corrections says that “stringent security measures are in place” and that they have a “zero-tolerance policy to deal with contraband.”
However, they added that despite their tight security measures, inmates “sometimes take extraordinary measures.”
Narcan is available in correctional centers for use by health care staff.
