B.C. NDP Leader John Horgan is promising to beef up capital funding to expedite public transportation south of the Fraser- if an NDP government is elected next May.
Horgan says he would boost provincial funding from 33 to 40 per cent for Metro Vancouver mayors’ 10-year-transit plan.
But Peter Fassbender questions specifics.
“The NDP’s position of spend without any way to raise money other than to put the province into deficit. It is a fiscal plan that has no solid base to it.”
He says the party’s track record says differently.
“It’s easy to make promises but they don’t even talk about how they would fulfill that in the point of view of paying for it. If you look at their track record they voted against every transit infrastructure program that we have put forward.”
The NDP claims, since the Liberals have been in power, transit fares have gone up but transit service has declined six per cent.
