The first Vancouver school district senior staffer to go on medical leave has jumped ship and found a job in Burnaby.
Burnaby school board chairman Ron Burton confirms Russell Horswill is its new secretary-treasurer.
“Now that Burnaby has opened up again he decided to come back because he felt it was a better fit for him and his skills in Burnaby.”
Burton claims Horswill didn’t give any indication on why he went on medical leave.
He says Horswill was under contract with the VSB but gave “notice to leave.”
As to whether any other VSB staff had taken a look at making the same jump to the Burnaby Board of Education?
“There has been some interested, yes.”
Several weeks ago six VSB senior employees went on sudden and unexplained leave.
Education Minister Mike Bernier also said a WorkSafe BC investigation had been launched into a “toxic” and “unsafe” work environment.
The elected trustees were fired last week for failing to implement a balanced budget.
