It was an experience Essi Beghari won’t be forgetting anytime soon.
He’s the Vancouver resident who was at home when he saw a stranger, in nothing but his birthday suit, in his kitchen cooking eggs.
LISTEN: CKNW’s Matt Lee talks to Essi Beghari about finding a naked egg chef in his kitchen (contains strong language)
Beghari says after a long day at work, he was lying in bed watching TV when he heard a noise from the kitchen.
“I went to open my door and looked down the stairs and I saw this guy completely naked.”
Beghari says he saw the breakfast ingredients askew on the stovetop.
“All the eggs, the bread, everything was out of the fridge. There were even eggs on the pan, it was just crazy.”
“He must’ve been hungry or something because he tried to turn the oven on. He couldn’t do it and that’s why he got frustrated and smashed the oven glass and damaged the microwave.”
Beghari says it’s clear the man was suffering from a mental health problem and hopes he gets the help he needs.
“He was talking to himself, I saw his clothes on the couch, his shoes were all over the place, and then I look at the kitchen and thought well before I saw him he tried to make himself the eggs.”
Beghari says he’s had some interesting life experiences – he’s even writing a book about his experience as a child soldier in Iran – but this is something he won’t forget.
He adds he won’t be forgetting to lock is windows or doors again any time soon.
The naked chef was charged with one count of mischief and one count of break and enter.
It’s not the first time a naked egg-chef has terrorized a Vancouver resident.
Back in 2013, the VPD reported a similar case, where a Burnaby man broke into an East Vancouver home to take a shower and fry some eggs.
