An update to a story CKNW brought to you about a desperate Surrey family close to homelessness, who now have a new lease on life.
Earlier this week, we told you the story of Jessica Paul, one of the thousands of so-called “working poor” across our region who could not find any low-cost housing in this tight housing market, and who also lost hundreds of dollars in a Craigslist housing scam.
Paul said the situation got so desperate, she was warned by the Ministry of Children and Family Development her child could be taken into government care.
Some good news: her family received a call today from a property manager, telling them he has a house for Paul and her family, which includes a five year old son.
That youngster wasn’t able to begin kindergarten in September because the family has no permanent address. In fact, they’ve been living in a hotel.
The property manager heard Paul’s story here on CKNW this week and swung into action.
Generous CKNW listeners have also been stepping up to the plate with an outpouring of financial donations and food for the family.
