Could things have gotten a little too political with the Vancouver School Board?
One former Vision Trustee thinks so.
Former trustee Allan Wong says the Vancouver School Board and Education Minister Mike Bernier could have worked harder together to meet behind closed doors.
“Could have had a more fulsome more productive discussion rather that that occurring…in the media there were back and forth in the media. In my view the politics got into it in the public realm.”
Bernier fired the board Monday after failing to pass a balanced budget in June.
“I think we should have worked more closely with the specifics of how to move things forward rather than in the media, because that was not helpful for both sides.”
Asked if he would do anything differently?
“Maybe I would have rethought passing the budget a little earlier.”
Wong says he stands by his decision to not pass a balanced budget in June and maintains he was willing to get fired over it.
