If you were one of 50 thousand people shopping at Tsawwassen Mills yesterday, you probably experienced bumper to bumper grid-lock while trying to leave.
Many shoppers took their frustration to social media, some saying it took more than 4 hours to get out.
Sawez Khan says it was overwhelming.
“The mall I believe only has two exits to leave the parking areas and both were really congested. In about half an hour I probably travelled like 10 feet.”
“Three hours to get out. Pretty frustrated, one you’re in the lineup, you really can’t get out of it. We watched the shuttle bus couldn’t get through, people had to get out of their cars, move their cars, and people directed the shuttle bus through to drop the passengers off.”
Khan says traffic controllers didn’t help.
“They just couldn’t keep up with it. I only saw a few officers there directing traffic. Their own parking staff was almost nil.”
Inspector Debra McLeod with Delta Police says additional exit points have been added.
“We’ve increased staff and traffic management from the mall. There are more traffic enforcement people.”
The mall opened on Wednesday.
Tsawwassen Mills would not comment on the incident, referring all calls to the Delta Police.
