WATCH: Cameraman Kevin MacDonald attacked with bear spray (Warning: Coarse Language)
A woman who sprayed a freelance cameraman with bear spray while he was filming near an Abbotsford homeless camp has been sentenced to 18 months probation.
Kevin MacDonald was recording across the street from the camp last October when Christine Bentley approached and sprayed him, complaining he was filming her without permission.
MacDonald explains the incident.
“At the end of it, she got right, right up against me so I gently kind of pushed her back, so you know, get out of my face, and while she walked away she bear sprayed me which was probably the most pain I’ve felt in my entire life.”
MacDonald, who says he couldn’t see for several hours after the assault, says he’s relieved she’s taken responsibility for her actions.
“She plead guilty to both counts and the judge chastised her a little bit. At one point, they were talking about what had happened and she started giggling a bit and the judge chastised her for that. She did eventually turn around and apologize to me for what happened. Whether it’s sincere, I don’t know.”
Bentley pleaded guilty at Abbotsford Provincial Court to assault with a weapon as well as uttering threats.
