As Vancouver’s unprecedented housing shortage continues, the mayor has announced another plank in the plan for more affordable housing.
The city is describing it as a significant step; a proposal for rezoning land at 58 West Hastings.
Mayor Gregor Robertson promised in August to turn that land that had been the site of the tent city protest, saying it could have as many as 300 housing units.
Today that number was presented at 250.
But Robertson says space is also being made for a health center.
“It’s a combination of the health and community space and then the sizes of the units.”
The estimated cost to build it is 70 million dollars.
