Toronto Police say the man who allegedly threw a full beer can onto the field at Rogers Centre during Tuesday’s Blue Jays wild-card playoff win has now been charged with Mischief.
Kenneth Pagan, 41, of Hamilton turned himself in to police, after identifying himself to media yesterday.
Pagan, speaking with the Toronto Sun yesterday, implied that he wasn’t the one who threw the can, telling the paper he was “drinking out of a cup.”
Police opened an investigation after the projectile was hurled from the left-field stand, narrowly missing Baltimore Orioles outfielder Hyun Soo Kim.
Kim made a catch on the play, but the Jays went on to win 5-2.
In a statement yesterday, investigators said they were “strongly encouraging this man to seek legal advice and turn himself into police.”
Yesterday, the Blue Jays also released a statement expressing “sincere apologies and regrets” to the Orioles and the league for what they called an “embarrassing incident”.
Earlier today, the Jays trounced the Texas Rangers 10-1 in game one of their American League East divisional series.
Game two takes place tomorrow in Texas.
