A report shows several IT projects in B.C. have failed, or were too challenging to carry out, costing the taxpayers money.
According to the province’s auditor general, more work must be done to ensure B.C.’s IT projects are successful.
Carol Bellringer released a report saying the right expert must be hired to ensure that projects are carried out efficiently and that more leadership is needed in future.
Bellringer said in her report that the government spent $668 million on IT capital, or developing new systems from 2014 to 2015.
She gave examples of projects which were handled inefficiently, and made recommendations to the government including the need to monitor all of its IT projects and expectations of services.
