A man’s ear was ripped off by a Vancouver police dog last week, now B.C.’s police watchdog wants to find the witness who filmed it.
Vick Supramaniam was sent to hospital with serious injuries following a police take-down in the search for kidnappers in New Westminster last Monday.
He told Global News at the time that he was an innocent bystander.
“I want to know why they did it, what they did to me.”
Marten Yousef with the Independent Investigations Office says they will determine if an officer did something wrong, but need the public’s help.
“We have been made aware that a witness may have recorded the incident on mobile phone, we would like to speak to that particular witness.”
He says the IIO has six open investigations related to serious police dog bites – three are from Vancouver.
The incident sparked calls for canine unit officers to where body cameras, and for an audit of the VPD dog squad.
