The Vancouver Aquarium is opening its doors to a new sea otter pup rescued off of Washington State’s coast.
Head veterinarian Dr. Martin Haulena says “Rialto” was stranded, suffering from pneumonia and gastrointestinal infection when he was found off of Rialto Beach in Washington State last month.
“He was emaciated…very, very poor body condition. Obviously hadn’t fed for some time. These guys need to feed a lot. They have a very very high metabolic rate. That’s particularly true when they’re small.”
The public can get a glimpse of Rialto on the aquarium’s website, as there is a live streaming feed of the pup’s nursery.
