The RCMP is attempting to fire a Maple Ridge Mountie at a conduct hearing being held at a Downtown Vancouver hotel.
Suspended Maple Ridge Constable Fareez Vellani pleaded guilty to providing false information under the insurance act, and was found by an internal RCMP tribunal of disgraceful conduct.
Now in the sanction stage, the RCMP is seeking Vellani’s dismissal.
Vellani misled police, ICBC, and a notary public by claiming damage to his Ford 150 pickup was caused by theft and vandalism.
It turns out damage to the hood and windshield was caused by a prior collision.
A witness for E Division with the professional standards unit says credibility is at the “core of who we are” and suggests the misconduct is at the “high end of the scale.”
The conduct hearing is scheduled for four days.
