Premier Christy Clark says if her Provincial Government controlled immigration, there would be “a lot more of it happening.”
Speaking to an Emerging Cascadia Innovation Corridor Conference – which included Washington State Governor Jay Inslee – Clark said B.C. has the best record in Canada of bringing in people from around the world as immigrants, but she’d like to see more working here.
“Unfortunately federal government controls immigration, if the Provincial Government controlled immigration there would be a lot more of it happening in our province but we are working very cooperatively with our new federal government to make sure we are bringing in as many immigrants as we can.”
Clark says her government is working with the Federal Government to make sure B.C. brings as many immigrants as possible.
“Talent is not just about growing our own, we have to be able to make sure we support bringing talent in to BC, we have the best record bar none in Canada of bringing in people from around the world as immigrants to come and work here.”
