The B.C. RCMP say the Surrey Mountie involved in a possible child luring and exploitation incident involving the Surrey Creep Catchers has been released after a judicial bail hearing.
RCMP say the Mountie was released with a number of conditions and they will continue to liaise with Crown Counsel with respect to criminal charges.
Earlier, BC RCMP said charges were pending against the officer allegedly caught on camera trying to meet up with an underage girl.
The charges have yet to be approved by Crown Counsel, therefore his name has not been released yet.
The officer in question has been removed from duty.
An internal Code of Conduct investigation under the RCMP Act has been initiated.
Decoy speaking out
The woman who claims to be the decoy in contact with the Mountie during the sting has come forward to explain her side of the story.
Danny Catcher posted an ad on Craigslist saying she was 18 years old.
The unnamed Mountie responded, even admitting he was a police officer.
Catcher then explained to him that she’s really 15.
“He responded that it was no problem and that ‘I seem very mature’.”
They continued to talk, and then the e-mails became sexual.
“[He] wanted to know about my sexual preferences, my kinks. He is going to pick me up and carry me to the bedroom and lay me down on the bed.”
And pictures were exchanged.
“A completely naked photo of himself in nothing but a towel.”
Catcher says the Mountie asked to come over, and she hesitated in order to gain his trust.
The pair eventually met last Wednesday evening outside Boston Pizza near Surrey Central Station.
“And he then wanted to go to my house to engage in sexual activity.”
A dozen members from Surrey Creep Catchers confronted him and he ran off.
The vigilante group live streamed the sting operation on Facebook.
The next evening, Surrey RCMP moved in to arrest the Mountie.
Catcher says the group has received unfair media treatment and that they didn’t intentionally target an RCMP member.
The situation was treated like any other, it just so happens an officer responded.
