The director of the Surrey Board of Trade has questioned BC NDP leader John Horgan’s plan to increase the minimum wage to 15 dollars.
A week from now the minimum wage in B.C. is set to increase from $10.45 to 10.85 per hour.
That’s a move that the majority of the Surrey Board of Trade agrees with but director Anita Huberman draws the line at the NDP leader’s promise.
“Just over 20 per cent supported a $15 per hour minimum. We are still in a soft economy in BC and John Horgan’s 15 dollar per hour minimum will be contentious.”
The director added that introducing a $15 per hour minimum wage could be enough to put small companies out of business.
