As the school year is back in session, Vancouver Police are reminding drivers that so is the school-zone speed limit.
“We’re there to remind everybody that school is back in session, that kids will be out, they’re excited to get back to class. They won’t be paying attention so we’re asking drivers to do that.”
Sergeant Brian Montague says officers will be out on the first day of school to make sure drivers are following the rules.
“Slow down, not only be aware of what your child is doing but be aware of all the other kids around you.”
Montague says it’s vital for drivers to remember that the 30 km speed limit in school zones is back in session as students head back to class.
“We’re going to be out in force on September the 6, first day back to school, we are going to have a fairly extensive enforcement campaign and education campaign. We’ll be at one of the local elementary schools here in Vancouver.”
He says parents should be especially careful as they can actually be the worst offenders.
