The Vancouver Aquarium will be the new home for a baby sea otter found south of the border.
Brian Sheehan with Vancouver Aquarium says Rialto was rescued from a beach in Olympia, Washington.
“When he was found he was in very poor condition he was emaciated, he was suffering from pneumonia and very, very lethargic.”
The paperwork went through last Thursday and he’ll be making his way from the Seattle Aquarium.
The little guy will be joining three other otters in Vancouver in the next couple weeks.
“Right now we are setting up a nursery area just for him and what that we’ll mean is a trained staff member with him at all times, he’s on a formula right now as well as some solid food”
Sheehan says he won’t be released to the wild, because the baby otter won’t have the life skills to survive.
He was named Rialto because he was found on Rialto Beach.
