A busy evening for Vancouver firefighters, called to a pair of hazmat situations in the city.
Captain Jonathan Gormick with Vancouver Fire Rescue says crews are working with Vancouver Police to investigate a hazmat situation in Kitsilano on West 13th avenue and McDonald Street.
Gormick says there’s no danger to the public right now.
“There are no injuries at this point and it’s not an emergency situation, but they are assisting in the identification of a product for police.”
He says that product is in the form of a small package.
20 firefighters are on scene.
Gormick can’t confirm what the substance in question is.
A second situation has since cropped up in the 1000 block of West Cordova.
“At this time there’s a company on scene that has secured the scene and is awaiting for the arrival of the hazardous material team. But again it’s in a commercial occupancy and there’s no danger to the public at this at this time.”
Gormick wouldn’t say what kind of products officials are dealing with.
He doesn’t believe the two packages are linked.
