It may seem odd considering the cool wet weather in the forecast this holiday weekend, but the Vancouver Park Board has announced it’s extending the Kitsilano Pool season by one week, as it did last year.
The city’s busiest pool will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Sunday September 18.
“Demand for swimming is on the rise due to changing demographic trends and Kits Pool, with its phenomenal views, is always a favourite summer destination for visitors and residents alike,” said Vancouver Park Board Chair Sarah Kirby-Yung in a release.
Outdoor pools at Second Beach in Stanley Park, New Brighton Park and Maple Grove Park will close as scheduled after the Labour Day weekend. The outdoor pool at Hillcrest Centre will close in mid-September.
The Kits Pool is also the longest salt water pool in North America, with swimming lanes that stretch for 137 metres attracting serious swimmers for training.
