West Vancouver Blue Bus drivers have voted 100% in favour of a strike mandate, and union is expected to use it.
In a release, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 134 President Geoff Devlin says it plans to issue 72-hour strike notice tomorrow.
“Our members are strongly supporting the union’s position to reject working conditions and benefits concessions demanded by the District of West Vancouver.”
Since the union’s contract expired at the end of March, there have been several bargaining meetings but no agreement has been reached so far.
Earlier today, West Vancouver spokeswoman Donna Powers said the hope was to resolve the dispute before any strike action.
“Mediation has been agreed to by labour relations and a mediator has been appointed so although they are having a strike vote today, we are still committed to mediation and hopefully, I think both sides hope that we’ll be able to resolve it in mediation.”
Other reports suggest the strike vote was called over working conditions and wage disputes.
