No charges will be recommended by the Independent Investigations Office after a slashing spree last year left three injured.
26-year-old Abdi Gani Mahamud Hirsi was shot by Vancouver Police on April 9, 2015, outside the First United Church on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
Initially, police tried to take Hirsi into custody using a bean bag shotgun, but that didn’t work.
At the time, Vancouver Police said he started stabbing a woman standing nearby.
Hirsi died at the scene.
The IIO notes two of the involved officers did not write any “duty to account” reports in relation to this incident, which caused problems during the probe.
The body says it will be following up to make sure all officers write such reports as required.
