As Canada Post reaches a tentative two year collective agreement with more than 50,000 of its workers, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers says it’s now time to focus on the future of our public postal system.
National President of CUPW, Mike Palecek, says the union negotiated a modest wage increase and saved the defined benefit pension plan for future workers, averting the prospect of job action.
Now he says the focus shifts to the formal review of Canada Post.
“Canada Post is currently very well situated to adapt to long-term steady decline of letter mail which we expect to see, but at the same time we are seeing massive growth in parcels. I think the future can be bright for Canada Post.”
Palecek says you can get involved by attending a hearing this fall.
