It’s hard to believe it’s been 36 years since Terry Fox ran his “Marathon of Hope.”
To mark the anniversary, Terry’s family will hike to the summit of Mt. Terry Fox in Valemount this Sunday.
Terry’s younger brother Darrell and close to 30 others will also cycle to the start of the trek from Sunpeaks in Kamloops.
“I live in the Terry Fox world and I actually pinch myself daily that it’s been 36 years so it is amazing, it’s a legacy but it’s also a living legacy.”
Darrell says that legacy has helped him through life, looking to his brother’s triumph as support.
“He inspires me everyday whenever I think I’m having a difficult day or things are rough I pick up Terry’s biography I read a couple of paragraphs and immediately my bad day is over he will always be a source of inspiration for me.”
$700 million has been raised in Terry’s name to support cancer research in Canada.
The annual Terry Fox run is the following weekend.
