B.C.’s Ministry of Finance says nearly two dozen people had their personal information compromised after Revenue Services sent personal MSP invoices to the wrong people.
The Ministry says 23 MSP bills were emailed to the wrong people through the new online billing system on August 8th.
That means personal information from addresses to account numbers and social insurance numbers ended up in the wrong hands.
The incident was reported to Revenue Services the next day.
A statement from the ministry says “Immediate action was taken to contain the information” and those affected were also notified.
The breach is blamed on a system error which the ministry says has been fixed.
And the incident has been reported to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner.
CKNW was made aware of the breach by a woman who emailed us, saying she was one of the 23 who had her information sent to someone else.
