“The project is very much on track.”
That’s what TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond says about the Evergreen Line, an 11-kilometer extension of the SkyTrain line through the Tri-Cities.
“There’s still many start up activation issues that have to be worked out, the project is very much on track and I think we will be able to collectively talk about the start date fairly soon.”
The Evergreen Line was first scheduled for completion this summer.
Previous delays on the so-called “Nevergreen Line”
In November 2015, the projectwas pushed from its previous completion date of Fall 2016, to an early 2017 finish.
Minister responsible for Translink Peter Fassbender didn’t mention at the time how much the delays will cost, but that they were do to tunnel boring.
By Spring of this year, Fassbender talked up progress on the line extension, promising taxpayers won’t be on the hook for the delays.
“I know those have been dealt with, with the contractor and the project authority. This project will be on time and no budget, so I can assure you that the work that is going on between the contractor and the project team has been taken to a place where I think we have resolution.”
He also says the project will be on time, despite the finish date moving from 2016 to 2017.
