The Abbotsford Police Department is issuing another round of warnings, after receiving reports of fraudulent phone calls.
All four complaints came into officials on Monday, August 15th, and are believed to involve ID spoofing.
Spoofing allows the call to make it look like it’s coming from an APD phone number.
The caller, a male, identifies himself as someone working for the detachment.
He tells the person he’s trying to solve historic immigration issues involving family, or members of the family receiving the call.
The caller asks the person to give their personal information over the phone, then, threatens deportation if they don’t.
Investigators believe the person is using the personal information to obtain access to credit cards or wire transfers in the victim’s name.
The APD is urging people to make contact with officials if they find themselves in this situation.
