A man is okay – despite his encounter with a bear on the West Vancouver side of Capilano River Road.
It happened at around 9:30 Monday morning.
West Van Police Constable Jeff Palmer says it was a bit of a scare for the man – who first thought the animal was a dog.
“During this encounter with the bear, he attempted to make loud noise, attempted to try and scare the bear away, observed that the bear wasn’t responding; wasn’t moving away. He ends up in, what he described as a – essentially, very close, almost face-to-face contact with the bear.”
The man decided that was enough, ran off, but fell in the process.
He eventually made it to safety, suffering minor cuts and scrapes.
Conservation officials, and local police are still trying to find the bear.
