An exciting finish Saturday night for the BC Lions, as they defeated the Hamilton Ti-Cats 45-38.
The Lions got things off to a quick start with a touchdown at 2-point conversion just a minute and a half into the first quarter, which wouldn’t be answered by Hamilton until a successful field goal few minutes later, BC holding a 8-3 lead.
A second field goal 5 minutes later narrowed the lead to 8-6.
After whiffing a punt for a single, the Lions would close out the first quarter with another touchdown, heading into the second with a 16-6 lead.
An early safety stretched the lead to 18-6, with yet another touchdown + single for a 25-6 BC lead 5 minutes into the second quarter.
The Ti-Cats would narrow BC’s lead to 25-12 with a touchdown, but fail to connect for extra points.
Another touchdown with 2 minutes to go would carry the Lions into the second half with a commanding 32-12 lead.
Hamilton began mounting a comeback in the second half, with a touchdown and single to edge closer to BC’s now 32-19 lead.
Another missed punt from Leone would take BC up another point, and was quickly countered by a field goal from Hamilton to take the Ti-Cats to 33-22 for the Lions.
The third quarter would end with a 35-22 lead for BC after the Ti-Cats lost a second safety, and would quickly turn into 38-22 shortly into the fourth quarter after a field goal from Leone.
Hamilton then mounted an incredible comeback, with two touchdowns, one of them a 126 yard punt return to tie the game 38-38, with only 3 minutes to go.
The tie didn’t last long though, with another successful touchdown from the lions, closing the game out 45-38.
BC will next take the field on the 19th, at home against the Calgary Stampeders.
