Several homes have been evacuated in Coquitlam after a gas leak.
Assistant Chief Gary Mulligan with Coquitlam Fire and Rescue says a homeowner struck a gas line while renovating, causing the leak.
The homes affected are in the area of Johnson Street and Delahaye Drive.
“We have approximately 12 homes evacuated in a 360 degree radius, crews have secured the scene. We have a chartered line out and we are waiting for the Fortis Gas crew to come in and stop the line.”
Mulligan says neighbors are in a safe zone.
“Crews are protecting the scene with an exposure line and we’re letting the gas freely vent into the air at this time.”
He expects the incident to be wrapped up in a couple hours.
He adds the incident isn’t serious and there’s no immediate danger to the public.
