A 10-year-old girl is in hospital with critical injuries after being attacked by a black bear in Port Coquitlam.
It happened just after 5:30 on a popular trail next to the Coquitlam River, near Shaughnessy and Lincoln.
According witnesses, the girl was out for a walk with her father.
B.C. Ambulance say the father drove his daughter to the nearest hospital, where they were met by emergency crews, and she was re-located to a more appropriate hospital.
Inspector Murray Smith with the B.C. Conservation Service says crews found the black bear and her cub, and had to destroy the bear.
Smith says for now the cub is being held overnight, and more information will be available Sunday.
